Premiere: Polytunnel – Outer Earth [Made Magnetic]

Ireland’s Polytunnel evokes a celestial electro rave with latest single Outer Earth, back up with an exceptional package of remixes from Denham Audio, Lighght and Jellypelt.

Hailing from Kilkenny, Ireland, Polytunnel is a meeting point of sounds and interests, not bound by genre or scene. His style of melodic electro mixed with breakbeat influenced acid has seen his music gain acclaim from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag, Inverted Audio, XLR8R and supported by the late great Andrew Weatherall on his much-missed NTS show, Music’s Not for Everyone.

Released on his own Made Magnetic imprint along with a trio of sublime remixes, latest single Outer Earth see Polytunnel at the top of his game. Blending euphoric ravey stabs with celestial synths, clattering drum fills and punchy drums, Outer Earth sits at the borders of electro and techno, with plaintive melodies and crisp production creating a uniquely unearthly atmosphere.

First up on remix duties in Denham Audio, an artist who has brought new urgency and vitality to the modern rave scene. The sound they’re pushing is rooted in the legacy of UK hardcore, but those foundational sounds and styles are given a thorough spruce up, feeding into the buoyant areas of exploration happening between 140 and 160 BPM. Their remix is characterised by broken beats and variable tempos which create a heady, disorientating vibe.

Irish producer Lighght takes Outer Earth into hyperpop-meets-hardcore territory, upping the BPM and employing deep bass throbs and cascading synths, while completing the package is Jellypelt – who previously released his debut album 2127 Tanya through Polytunnel’s Moot Tapes imprint – who adds layers of ethereal vocals and epic breakdowns to his broken beat rave exploration.
