Premiere: AJ Christou – Double Standards [Whippin]

The vital Mason Collective’s Whippin Records serves up a superb new volume of their Whippin Heat compilation with another wealth of talent. Featuring across the nine tracks are artists including Close to Custom, Slugg, Tre Reynolds, Late Delivery and more.

Mason Collective & Joseph Edmund kick us off with some old school breaks and plenty of floor-filling samples on their Nitty Gritty, then AJ Christou follows with Double Standards, a pumping tech cut with turbocharged stabs and lots of raw energy. Close To Custom – Lil Popz is a slick and spaced out kicker with nice silky drums, and then Daniel Orpi’s Let The Drums picks up the pace for some high speed house funk, complete with clicky effects and steamy vocal coos. Late Delivery gets freaky with the wonky tech of Nightcap, and London Ground keeps it stripped back and percussive on Liar.

Slugg layers up nice bubbly bass and rolling drums on Sosa Baby, a lively and elastic cut. Then Tre Reynolds – Icy is a real pumper with poppy kicks that lock you into the groove. Tyron Amory closes down with the driving and edgy Like This, a perfect cut for the 5am dancefloors.

This is another masterclass in contemporary house from Whippin Records.
