Premiere: Sam Monie – Haircut (Mr.C Remix) [Superfreq]

Sam Monie is the best DJ you’ve never heard and now he drops his debut EP on Superfreq after five years away since his last outing on Stark Futures. Mr.C has been hammering these tracks since he first heard them and so steps up to remix.

It is that remix from the label head Mr.C that kicks off and he comes out swinging. Staying true to the original version, this tough house groove carries the bassline, analogue pulses and an infectious twist on the original acid line. White noise and ethereal synth hits add trippiness, as analogue splashes and effects delight with this acid house banger.

Next is Sam’s original, Haircut. The filtered kick is quickly joined by an acid bass-line, hooky synth notes and metallic drums that leave you mesmerised, before the bass change comes in to hook you in deeper. Then comes I Try with an arpeggiated melody filled with soul and drums that build and a vocal sample that draws you in to make for a fine DJ tool that will throw any large room or festival into a frenzy. The EP closes out with the wonderful Dowally. Another sick bass-line immediately grabs you as the drums build and chord stabs create the vibe. Vocal samples and a cheeky 303 acid line join the fray making for yet another sublime slice of Acid House.
